Keeping Your Kids Healthy

There is an enormous amount of information out there for children's health, but it seems to me that most of the stuff we see is just common sense and information we already know. However, I don't want to just focus on illness, and I do feel there is information we need help remembering, as well as keeping up with any new changes.

If you think of anything you'd like to see mentioned, please send me a note and I'll be glad to look into it!

Bicycle Safety-In Onondaga County it is the law that you must wear a helmet if you are 18 or under on a bike, in-line skates, skateboard, or scooter. Many people think the law is 14 or 16-this is because many towns have their own laws that were enacted prior to the law in Onondaga County, which of course overrides the town laws in the county.

Did you know most counties, at least locally, have programs to assist people in getting helmets (as well as car seats for babies/toddlers)? Many counties sponser programs throughout their towns as well, and use a sliding scale for fees because it is so important. They also will help fit the helmets, and have different styles and colors to choose from. If you choose to buy your own from a store, make sure it has a CPSC label, and that you know how to fit it.
