Keeping Your Kids Healthy

We do tend to look for information when our children have an illness or problem, but I think it's a good idea to also include information on wellness - keeping kids healthy and safe before there is an issue. It's also a good to have reminders since recommendations often change over time.

If there is any wellness topic you'd like to see listed, please send me a note and I'll do my best to look into it further!

Naturally, if you have any concerns, the best source of information is your doctor/pediatrician.

Bicycle Safety

In Onondaga County it is the law that you must wear a helmet if you are 18 or under on a bike, in-line skates, skateboard, or scooter. Many people think the law is 14 or 16 - this is because many towns have their own laws that were enacted prior to the law in Onondaga County, which overrides the town laws in the county.

Did you know most counties, at least locally, have programs to assist people in getting helmets (as well as car seats for babies/toddlers)? Many counties sponsor programs throughout their towns as well, and use a sliding scale for fees because it is so important. They also will help fit the helmets, and have different styles and colors to choose from. If you choose to buy your own from a store, make sure it has a CPSC label, and that you know how to fit it.
